UNTITLED (BEYOND THE BORDERLINE), 1999
Paper rolls / offset prints 21 x 31 cm

The gray concrete floor of the exhibition space is covered with rolls of paper, standing on end, that have been placed so as to leave very little space in between. They appear to represent a new world map – with new continents. Similar to the work "New Order" (1999), "Untitled (beyond the borderline…)" (1999) also represents an attempt to thwart the cartographic effort that is undertaken to measure and represent our world. The map is colored light blue by the blue tone on the inside of each roll of paper. Unrolling any one of these tubes reveals a blue background with a printed shadow and the phrase "beyond the borderline…" The information that is hidden on the inside of each roll indicates how cartographic data always also depict zones that are created when borders are crossed.
