SLADJAN NEDELJKOVIC
LOST IN TRANSLATION, 2016
24 drawings 23 x 30 cm, pencil on paper
The drawing series Lost in Translation was developed by the artist during a several months stay in Nagahama, Japan. The text in the drawings is based on an interview the artist conducted with a resident of the city. The conversation deals with questions of cultural identity, migration and globalization. The drawings capture everyday life situations that Nedeljkovic observed in the city during his stay. The title of the work Lost in Translation suggests that cultural specificities, personal experience and observations cannot be translated adequately and that there is always a small grain of meaning lost in the process.
