As part of the exhibition Seeing is (Not) Believing at the Kunsthalle Rostock's Schaudepot, the artist Sladjan Nedeljkovic has created the work Vermischte Nachrichten (Mixed News) especially for the outdoor gallery. Through this work, he questions our usual perceptions of media content. Using cut-out newspaper pages, from which the artist cut out images and texts and photographed them, new surfaces are created. Nedeljkovic uses these as frameworks or templates and designs his own newspaper pages. His layouts show images that he has taken from the Internet archives and are combined with fictitious headlines.
The billboard work Vermischte Nachrichten opens up an exciting space for experience and thought, in which the media instruments 'text' and 'image' are alienated and thus reveal new levels of interpretation. The artist deliberately demonstrates the dependence of the images on a text and a specific context so that they can convey a meaning and a message to the reader. Vermischte Nachrichten reveals the influence of media power on the Internet, television and the print media with regard to our perception of reality. The billboard series refers to the political, social and cultural influence of media content on society and invites us to a critical examination of the media instruments 'text' and 'image'.
